Here's a picture taken by a farmer in 1995 when they were hit with 12 inches of rain in 3 hours.
The tractor pictured is an AC 7040 and it flooded his irrigation pump and engine along with a Willy's Jeep. He was spared from the latest flooding that hit NW Ohio. Hal

Looks like he should have shut off the irrigation before he went to lunch.

Hal: Where was this taken. Years ago when I taugh school I had a boy and they farmed an island in the Maumee river near Toledo. He told one time the water cameup quick durring harvest and they had an Oliver 77 there to run an auger and the only thing they could see was a couple inches of the exhaust pipe and the weather cap. I think some field in Hancock and Putnam county were like that last week.J.

I think it's in the Fort Recovery area. That tractor is an AC 7040 and he said it was ruined. Hal

With that much rain in a short time period there isn't much you can do. Its very flat in that area. I'm glad we live on a hill since we had 22 inches in June of last year. He used that irrigation this year since it was so dry. It was dry in MD too. I used the wash water and rinse water from the washer to water the garden. The tomatoes don't taste soapy either. Hal

Tat soapy water is actually a good thing. We use the rinse water from the barn all summer, and the soapy water helps keep the bugs off and maybe a few other things.

My late mom used the water from the kitchen after doing the supper dishes on her cabbage plants. I think it did a better job than Sevin. I use direct composting on my garden. I put back sweet corn husks and cobs along with bean vines then plow everything under. I use leaves too, but I grind them up with an old Toro mower. Hal
