Hello, It's my first tractor rebuild and I'm having a few problems and looking for some help. I have a 1963 Oliver 550 tractor. I recently rebuilt the engine with the complete overhaul kit. I went to install the engine and am having trouble getting the clutch shaft to slide into the pilot bearing. Upon inspection I notice that the clutch shaft has excessive play. Is this normal? or should this shaft be rigid? What is my fix for these problems? Also wich way does the clutch plate install with the longer end towards the flywheel or the clutch?

did you split the tractor because its alot easier to do clutch work on a 550 with it split
