I looked at a 550 with an oliver hyd. driven mounted sickle bar mower and I was wondering what would be a decent ballpark figure as far as price. The tractor seems to be one of the earlier ones as I have seen others with " newer style " decals, sheet metal was in pretty good shape, tires were not that great, started and ran pretty good but didn't drop and try the mower.

Landis Zimmerman's article on AC Anderson Co. mentioned that they made a line of hydraulic driven sickle bar mowers for Oliver. Usually sold to government highway departments. There is a photo of one mounted on a Super 55.

Hyd drive mower? Are you sure about that? Every sickle mower I"ve ever seen was PTO driven. Do you mean it has a hydraulic cylinder on it to raise and lower? I would be cautious the 550 would put out enough volume and pressure to make it work well if it"s truly hydraulically driven.

Around here (NW IA) decnet 550"s with drawbar are ~3500 or so. Add 300 for power steering and same for remote hydraulics.

My New Holland 450 3 pt 7" bar sickle mower should bring around 600, with all recent drive bushings, knives, guards.

There's a photo of one on p. 130 of the book "Oliver Farm Tractors" by T. Herbert Morrell and Jeff Hackett. Evidently, the dedicated hydraulic mowers started with 66,77 and 88 models. They could cut saplings up to 1 inch diameter!

Yes, I do mean hydraulic drive. There was a belt shive on the pto shaft that drove a hyd. pump that was made into the framework of the mower that mounted under the right side axil housing

Ok. The way I understand it is the PTO drives a secondary hyd pump, which pumps oil to a hyd motor on the mower itself. I'm not sure why somebody would build a mower this way, but what the heck, if it works so be it.

I was thinking the Oliver hyd pump powered the mower. It is rated at 5 gpm and 1500 psi I believe, which is not a lot in todays world. But even that may be suficient if that (and the three pt) is all it's doing.

It sounds like this mower is pretty well tied into the tractor. That may suit your needs well. For me, the mowing is 10% of it's annual hours. Powering an auger, blading, moving empty wagons, etc. is it's other jobs, and a (semi)permanent mower would not be my preference.

The mower is probably hydraulically driven so that the mower can be ran at a wide range of angles. Most likely it is an industrial mower that was used for mowing ditches and hills. It may be worth some money to someone who has a lot of ditches and so forth to mow.

It had the bar style grill, gas powered with no drawbar and the lift arm on the right side was missing due to the mounting configuration of the mower, non power steering

Start at $2,000-$2,200 and add extra for Swinging Drawbar $250, Power Steering $300+, External Hydraulics $300.

Does it have checkerboard grill or horizontal bar grill. Diesel or Gas. Serial number will tell you exact age.

The mower? $300+ ??
