Greeings! Got the 88 home and I was working on the injector pump. Staightening out the throttle linkage (I guess thats what you call it, you know that metal rod from the steering column that actuates the throttle at the pump?) well any way I unfortunately touched the starter motor wire with the rod and shorted it out against the body and now have no power anywhere. So I think fuses, I look in my oper. manual and it says there is a panel behind the dash. I have seen no such thing. The tractor has had some previous elec. work so I know that things are a little "creative" but its got to have fuses any help would be appreciated Thanks.

Well I spent the morning checking my wiring. I have continuity to the starter and cont. to most all the wires at the dash. The battery is full (@13 v) still needed a little ether but I got her running. Still no lights! I am guessing that I fried some of the lights wiring so I will check that out soon.I checked the "glow plug" out and found that to be shorting out against itself. I think I got that fixed but when I check the circuit on the glow plug switch I get nothing. I am suspecting that the injector pump is the cause of my difficult starting issues. There is a drain plug looking nut on the top side of the pump. I open this up and can see gears. Are you supposed to be able to check lubrication levels with this hole? I guess I got a ton of questions.I have a shop manual coming in the mail but I still like the advice of actual people.Just wanted to let you all know of my progress. Thanks Any adice is appreciated. Oh yeah I found a fuse panel but get this.... ! 1 fuse, intact but no wires leading to it or away from it????? I am thinking that I will have to redo the wiring back to "stock" and possibly add a fuse panel. I have looked but I have found no other panel. Outside of a dog a book is a mans best friend, inside of a dog its too dark to read.

Princeton-Thanks for the reply. Nearest I can tell is its a super88. There is a jerry rigged box frame mounted to the "tub" on mounts that are attatched to the tub(redundant I know). This frame holds the front bucket. I looked up my serial# but all it told me was the year...1950. Any ideas on the fuse panel? Thanks all I appreciate your help.

Oh boy, I hate to bust your bubble, but there is no fuse in the starter circuit. First thing: Do you have a voltmeter? If so check across the batteries and make sure you have 12 volts which I gues you do not. Somewhere you have a problem with the heavy wires. The fuse block and there were several different ones is located behind the batteries. This is a Fleetline and not a Super 88 correct? If not there are some changes in fuse location.

I will check the battery. I took out the one 6v and put in one new 12v. I did this last week before I got it home. As for fleetline vs super 88 I dont know. Suggestions? As for the power outage I was thinking maybe fusible linkages? I spent a while this mon. looking for a fuse panel. I have the "hood" off so there is not a lot of hiding space. I will keep looking and I look forward to any advice thanks

The easiest way to determine if it is a super or a fleetline is to look at the "tub" (frame)and see if it has just holes for mounting implements (straight 88) or the holes and mounting pads (super 88). 99% of the time that will tell you, although some farmers did update their 88s with the super frame. The serial number plate should be attached to the underside of the dash on the left side. You can check the serial number against the numbers listed over to the left on this site. Just in case you can't find a serial number plate on the dash you should look on the side of the transmission housing, since that is where it was on early fleetlines.

Addendum Serial# states that it is an 88 Row Crop so perhaps the frame has been changed out? Also I did not find any serial type #'s under the dash just a serial # on the R side of the transmission under the deck. Thanks again.
