The motor wants to die. To keep it running I have to push the cold start button all the time and then she runs great for a little while. Does anyone have any ideas what would cause this. Thank you, Phil

Thanks for the replies. To answer both, I just acquired the tractor and do not know when the fuel system was last serviced. This tractor has a Bosch injector pump.

There is a solinoid/switch mounted in the fuel line at the injector pump which "clicks" when the cold start button is pushed. The tractor starts very good. It will run fine for a little bit and then start to sputter and then die. If the button is held down it never misses a beat. When it starts to sputter and the button is pushed for just a little while it runs fine for a little while. The tractor pulls hard as long as the cold start button is pushed.

This tractor may have been used on a remote irrigation pump. Could the solinoid/switch at the injector pump be a safty switch for the motor.

Thanks, Phil

Now you are starting to make sense. Do the gauges have reset buttons as well? That solenoid was added. Buy a set of fuel filters, change the primary filter, bleed it and remove the solenoid and then get back with us. Good Luck!. J.

The tractor does have a Murphy switch. The wire from the temp gauge to the switch had a bare spot and was gounding out. Problem solved!! Thanks again, Phil

Thanks again J. I will remove the solinoid and service the filters. I will let you know how it works out.

I have a couple other questions for you if you do not mind. I grew up around my grandfather's 77 and 88 but this 880 is all new to me.

It has a T/A. Can it be shifted up and/or down on the "fly" without using the clutch. Or should the the clutch be used. The T/A seems to be pretty solid. Do you know what the original weight of the tractor is. Also, there is an electric cord with a plug-in coming out of the hydraulic housing, what is it used for.

Thank you, Phil

Answer to the first question: Yes, but don't lug it down too far. Answer to the second question, Not in my head and how is the tractor equipped: wide front what size tires, fluid weights, pressed steel or cast wheels. etc. Third question: It is the cord for the hydralectric sytem which was Oliver system of detent control for the cylinder.

The tractor has cast wheels (15.5x38) and a narrow front. It does not have a 3pt or any wheel weights/front end weights.

Again J, thank you very much. Phil

All that does is preheat the air. Does this tractor have a Bosch or Roosa Master fuel system? I would change the fuel filters to elimate that as a problem area. How does it start?

How long since you changed fuel filters and cleaned air cleaner? That would be the first thing I would try. Chris
