My wife and I (yes she gets excited about tractors too) just purchase a good running 1550 diesel, but found an oil leak around the PTO shaft. There is a seal inset there about 1/2 inch and it looks like there is room for a second outter seal and possibly an end-cap.

Anyone out there familiar with this and whether it does have two seals, or I just need to replace the existing seal?

I have an I&T Shop manual on order, but looking to get a jump on fixing this leak.

Also, any leads on where to find parts for this tractor online or dealers in SE Michigan?

Thanks for your help,
Scott

What is your defination of southeast MI? I used to work in Monroe county. Boellners in Maumee next to Toledo can help you with your parts situation. I think you are telling me the seal on the output shaft leakings and it sound like you have the single speed PTO. That seal has been around for a long time. If it was me I would take the gear case off change the oil and inspect the bearingss at the time as well. More questions? J.

Thanks for the info, I am in Monroe County :)

Is that AJ Boellner you are referring to in Maumee?

I will probably wait for the shop manual to arrive before I break into it further. I like your idea of inspecting the bearings and I planned on changing all of the fluids on it before putting it to use.

Thanks again for the possible parts supplier.

That is who I was refering to. He can help you with both parts and service if needed. I worked out at the Dana test track. J.
