I was wondering how the fuel comsumption of a Oliver 1850 Diesel was compaired to the gas. I ran a Oliver 1750 gas on a pto generator this last winter and it used 7 gallons an hour. I am looking at a Oliver 1850 Diesel. I hope they use a little less fuel.

We have a gas 5000, and 3 diesel Ford 5000 tractors. The Ford 5000 gas uses 2 tanks of gas to 1 tank of diesel or BETTER!! I know this is the Oliver forum, but I figured those two were the easiest to compare. I also have 3 1850 Oliver diesels (Perkins diesels), and I would suggest if you can get your hands on one, BUY IT!!! You will not be disappointed, as long as it is the Perkins diesel. The 1850 is one of my favorites, along with the 1365.

untill two years ago we owned a 100 cow dairy. when the power went out, we couldnt stop. our generator was a 40kw and could be ran with a 674 ih, about 60 hp. both the 1850 and 1955 we own have the dual speed pto. we would shift into 1000 rpm and run the generator with the tractor about half speed. (the gen was a 540 model) you must have an output gauge on the gen, or have it tested when under load to ensure the right amount of current is coming out. too much or too little will destroy things fast. fuel consumption wont be an issue this way. our nieghbor ran a silage blower for years on the same concept.

I don't know how big your generator was but I am beginning to think that 1750 gas had problems. 1850 Diesel is good on fuel. You must also remember from the factory now all the pumps were set to the same settings. How much horsepower do you need? J.

I bought the generator to run my house which runs entirly on electric during a winter storm last year. Since I have no gas in my house from what I understand my electric heat can pull up to 17 KW by itself. My Winco is 30KW continious rating generator that will also hold 50KW for up to 10 minutes. With my water heater running I could tell that the Oliver 1750 seemed to have a fair load. In the forum I seen that the 1850 gas can use up to 8 gallons an hour and I figured it would be gest to get a diesel but was wondering how much more efficent it really was.

In think your 1750 has a diaphram problem in the carburetor. Properly tuned you should cut some fuel consumption>
