When putting the transmission cover back together on a Super 55, the hydraulics cover and the transmission top gaskets. Is it necessary to put an adhesive on the cork gaskets?

I've always used a light coat of non-hardening Permatex for almost every assembly (except heads), and have never had any problems. NEVER use the type that hardens- its really tough to get off the next time you have to take it apart.

Thanks for the info. I did that. I used the non-harding.

I was told by the AGCO mechanic to put it on dry. He said if you use silicone and it squishes out a little on the inside, then a piece breaks off and falls in there, gets into the small ports etc. I don't believe the ones i put back in were cork though, I think they were the black paper type. I belive i use some 'high tack' by loctite to keep them in place. good luck.

I dont think you need adhesive, but do not use silicone on cork, it acts like a lube and the gasket will squish out. Learned that one the hard way bout 20 years ago
