I picked up an 880 at an auction and the Transmission/PTO (what I think are Transmission/PTO) fluid levels are low. I have ordered manuals but they have not arrived. The engine runs good but I do not want to run the tractor because of the low fluid levels

O. K. you received some information that was correct 40 + years ago. What Ken said was in the manual. We started using the 80-90 weight in the 60's already. It takes about 1 quart less than 5 gallon. Does you tractor (if it has the helical transmission) have the lube pump which was a field installation package. There is no dipstick for the transmission. Only dipstick in that area is for the hydraulic unit. Fill plug is on the right side close to the gearshift. Check plug for the transmission is on the right side and checks both the fial drive and the transmission and power booster if so equipped. There are also 2 drain plugs.

Ok, now I am confused. The only dip stick that I find in that area is in center and a little left just below the Hydraulic remotes as you are sitting in the seat. This is the one that is now showing low. I do not know about a lube pump or power booster. All of this is new to me. I will check the fluid level at the plug on the right side of the transmission right in front of the brake. What is the winged cap (2 dia) on the top right side by the break used for? It looks down into some gears.

I was wrong, I have the manual here. It says to use Oliver Power-Booster Drive and trans oil additive and a premium quality SAE 10W-30 engine oil all year around except where temps are normally below zero degrees F. Then 5W20 should be used. As I said, I think that a hyd-trans oil can now be used but, talk to your dealer. To check the trans-diff oil level, there is a plug on the right side of the trans right in front of the brake. The PTO has a plug on the back side of the housing lower and to the right of the output shaft. The PTO does take 80W-90.

Does it have a power booster? If it does, do not use 80W-90. I'm not near my owner's manual right now but, I think that It says to use 30W if you have the power booster. I think that you can also use a good hyd-trans oil. Best is to check with your dealer.

Thank you evielboweviel. I found one port on the left with a dip stick that I think is for the transmission. There is another port to the right so is this the fill point for the PTO and how full do you fill it?

90 weight or 80/140 not certain think about 5 gallon will put you in the ballpark for the trans.
