Will a complete 310 from a 1971 1755 bolt in place of a 283 from a 1974 1655? Are the heads interchangeable? I have a tired 283 in my 1655 and a fresh 310 in a 1755 that is being parted out, can"t stand the thought of just selling the 310 if it will fit in the 1655 w/o much hassle.
Are there any intrechagability issues I should know about?
Thanks in advance.
Scott

Are you willing to sell the 283? What is wrong with it? Looking for something to replace a bad engine in an early 1800 gas. Will need complete engine.

Yes, it is a easy swap. Engine size and bolt locations are the same. Keep the water pump, fan, flywheel, back plate, clutch etc with the 1655. You do not have to change heads but they are interchangeable. It makes for a very have 1655.

Would you have sheet metal cover that encloses the hydraulic pump or the battery hold-down from your 1755?

I think the swap will work fine. Possibly the only problem I can think of is fan to radiator clearance, and maybe if the exhaust will exit the right place in the hood!! I put a 310 in a super 77 and that wasnt a big deal, so your swap should be simple!!! I would be interested in either engine if you are going to sell one. Where in Wisconsin are you ???

Yes, the only difference is the crankshaft ,they are the same motor. Some have 58 head bolt and some have 916 head bolts. You can put a 58 head on a block with 916,but of course, you can'
go the other way without boring out the holes in the head.Just something to look for if you mix and match blocks and heads.

Intake valves on the 283 engines are smaller in diameter.
