Is there a official re-power for the 55 series Oliver tractors that run the 310 Waukesha? Now we are looking for something that White recommended sometime ago, or something that AGCO recommends. We know that Perkins and Cummins will work in the these tractors but we want to know if there is or was a repower available from the manufacture for them. Our Agco dealer has been no help to us finding this out. Thanks for your time guys.

Oliver, White, or Agco would have never endorsed a re-power of their tractors; they would have recommended fixing the factory engines they put in the tractors. What has your Agco dealer said to you? or where has the thought of an "official kit" come from? As for the re-power idea, the Cummins one makes for a very nice tractor--we got a 1755 repowered that way, and its very nice:)

We were told by one of the mechanics that there was a repower available for the D21, 210 and 220 Allis Chalmers tractors from Agco and the repower was a penski motor or basically a DT466 international. This must be true because we have a D21 in our pulling association that runs a DT466 and he has documentation that says that the 466 is the repower for that tractor. We then asked that if they made a repower for that vintage tractor, maybe the made a repower for the Oliver tractors of that same era.

Don't forget there are 3 different versions of the DT-466. And yes they do not all have the same bore and stroke

Yes there are 3 versions of the DT466, but...the 40 series engine is not one of them, they are a whole different generation of motor. The cranks are bigger, bigger main journals, rod journals, diameter and width(they are a metric measured crank as well) Rods are completly different, much heavier, bigger wrist pins as well. A 466 crank from any of the actual dt466's will not go into this motor. The navistar motor/detroit 40 came in 466 and 530 cube versions. These engines are easily identified by the intake that breaths through the valve cover, thats the quickest way to know which engine your dealing with. Also the outstide of block looks nothing like a 466 block did.

That is correct. Then you had the electronic engines. Of course now you have the 4 valve DT-466 engines, which are different. I think you people are just refering to the first generation DT 466 in the A, B & C series versions. I have the engine serial numbers when the later changes were made on my laptop which is out being checked over.

I also forgot that Detroit had some series 40 engines that were built by John Deere.

Maybe I should have worded that the Detroit Diesel version is the truck version and not the A or B series as used for farm power.

No, 466 is not legal replacement, detroit 40 series motor is.It is a descendant of the 466 (it is a navistar built engine, but the only thing that will interchange is the head bolt pattern. Agco has officially designated the 8.3 cummins, 40 series detroit(navistar) and Sisu engines as replacements for the 426 AC motor. If you want to go by ntpa rules, you could run the5.9 or the 8.3 cummins in a Oliver chassis without any letter from Agco since they ran these engines in the whites. The 5.9 would be the more "correct" update for the 310 though. Good Luck.

Maybe what you're thinking of was the factory fix for the 1855 at the time which the 1955 310 with the better oil cooler. That was 35 years ago I was just a snot nosed preteen so I'm sure somebody else on here knows more about that program. But anyway the Cummins fits nicely, very reliable , but noisier than a 310 turbo.
