rebuilding 880 diesel engine--cleaned block--test fitted liners & have about .005 liner protrusion. spec's call for no more than .004. block is super clean. comments or suggestions????? ?????

  Question:  Do you have the sleeves clamped down with four washers and bolts as shown in figure 2-54 in the shop manual?   Without the clamping, you will get an incorrect measurement.

thanks for reply. did not have liners clamped. tried it & now have anywhere from .002-.003 over all liners. also measured several places around liners with no deviation. your help is very much appreciated!!!!! !!!!! !!!!

You need to keep to the specs and measure protrusion as per manual, accurately. 'About' in my book is between 4 and 6 thou. Not close enough when max is 4.
