I purchased an Oliver tractor with front bucket and bachoe, I think it's a 550. My manual tells me by the serial #, tractor is a 1963, but looks newer from the photos I have seen, because of the loader having rectangular tube construction not round tube and the grill is squared off not rounded, the numbers found next to the clutch pedal are 45-0073, and 132979-519. The bucket looks like it came with the machine new and is a oliver and has # 588 painted on the side. Now the back hoe is painted yellow so im sure it was added later, it has a oliver tag on it. I am working on the power steering and my manuals parts picture is not the same as what i am looking at, the lines come in a different way, mine looks like newer design. This is why I am questioning the year and model of the tractor. Any help would be a blessing. Thanks

Yes your tractor is a 1963 550. I would suggest getting a build card from the museum in Charles City. It will tell you many things including what day it was built and with what options. Now for your power steering. I wonder if your picture is the original style and your tractor is the later style. I can look up when the change as made but it was around late 1961 or 62. J.

Thanks for the info, I thought the tractor had to be a 550 just from the pictures I found on the net, but when things did'nt match the manual it made me wonder. I am looking for power steering parts on the net with no luck so far, I am going to try my local agra dealer today. Any recommendations for parts suppliers. I have found one good site ricksagriparts.com but does not have power steering parts, brake parts, etc. I did find a post by SW3 with a picture of the power steering unit that is on my tractor, he emailed me and said he did not disasemble his unit and is living with the leak and had no luck with the parts.I have fluid coming out of the steering tube, BAD, so I removed the wheel and tube and have found a seal in the bootom of the tube and looks like a bearing at the top of the tube, I am going to start here because everything else looks dry. I'm sure this has happened to someone else before me. This site and all that reply are great THANK YOU.

My parts manual shows both types, I think- will have to check. I don't have scanning capability, but if you will email my your postal address, I will copy and mail them to you. Or a fax number would be fine, also, but the quality would be better if I mailed. As to where to find parts, seals and bearings can usually be sourced by the number on the item, from bearing dealers. I know parts for the power steering stuff has always been hard to get through conventional parts sources. mmittge at compprime dot com.

I emailed with address and fax #. I hope I got it right. I just came back from the dealer and so far no help, he is going to call another dealer in the mid west on monday to try and get more info, Olivers are rare in Florida. I'm going to try the local bearing shop on monday as well to see if they can match up the seal or bearing, problem is the seal and what I think is a bearing are so old and not in one piece. Again thanks for any and all help.
