The scales at the fairgrounds says I"ve got to drop 200 pounds of weight from my Oliver 1600 to pull in the stock 6500# class. I need to keep the fenders and rockshaft on the tractor. Would anyone please share any photos of a wooden or fiberglas grill for an Oliver 1600? The rules for this class state that an entry must have a hood and grill, but it does NOT say it has to be original equipment! I"ve removed the cast iron grill (heavy) and am gonna attempt a wooden replacement. Any ideas or photos are appreciated! Thanks in advance, Don

Allow me to explain further. I've been stock tractor/truck pulling for 25 years. Chevy 4x4's, AC, IH, Farmall and Oliver tractors. I bought the 1600 Oliver from a friend in 2002. I keep it at another good friend's farm and HE used to own and pull the same Oliver 1600 30 years ago! My daughter pulled it in the #6500 stock class at our local club pulls the last few years. She's busy with other aspects of her life now and has no time to pull this season. My daughter weighs a little over 100# less than I do, so she could just make weight at 6500#. I already have pressed steel wheels and a narrow front end, have removed the three point arms and center link, etc. The top section of my wooden grill is finished and installed and I'll have finished building and installing the lower section this week. I'm just curious as to what setups other guys might be running. I pull the 7500# class with it and the front end stays on or close to the ground in that class. And yes, I built my own hitch that meets all the club's rules and regulations. Don

Why not just swap on a set of pressed center rear wheels. AT least they were available form the factory. Another option to explore if you want to stay "stock" would be using the clamshell type fenders instead of the square top ones. They were used for some applications from the factory.

I'm going to get flamed by the pullers for this, BUT.. If it has a wood or fiberglass grille it's NOT STOCK ANYMORE is it?

Hehehe trust me Stock in pulling doesn't not mean what it says.. It means it kinda mostly has to look stock. And even that is iffy. However I would try the pressed steel if you have some.Take 200 off of the front and you might be looking at the sky while going down the track.
