Is a super 66 a good tractor?

Hi,
I know this question is like "preaching to the choir,"but I am a green tractor man of another shade (JD GREEN) normally and I dont know a lot about olivers. A super 66 looks and sounds like i would like one. A few questions first:
1. Does it have a 6-cyl motor? I have heard these are very smooth motors and would like to have one.

2. Are parts easly obtainable and if so is the cost greater than most oliver models? How do the prices on parts compare with JD tractors?

3. What are some options that a person should look for that would make this tractor more valuable than the average super 66?

4. What are some problems that a person should look for when going to see a super 66 that is for sale?

5. Are there any wep pages that I should see to get info on these tractors or to see a good resored pic of one?

What would you wan't it to do? Personaly I'd get a super 66 with a wide front and with the diesel option. But you have to decide what you want. The super 66 is a 4 cylender and has about 35 pto hp. If You'd like a 6 cylender in that hp range I recomend a 77 also 35 hp available in gas or diesel and with live power hyd's and pto, optional 3 pt and wide front. Or a super 77 same as above but green rims and 40 hp. Mecanical parts are easy and resonable agco has most idems still in production and salvage yards have the rest. Tin work may be the only tuff idem. Injection pumps run $600 and injectors $35 these are quotes I got in late 97 for the 6 cylender modles the 4 cylender uses the same injector type and I don't think that a pump would cost more than the 6 cylender. Chuck,it sounds like you and I have a little in common,bringing home a different shade of green and not knowing a darn thing about them.My project is a Oliver 88rc. All I know about this tractor is that it is a 6cly,live hydro. live pto.I've ordered my shop & operator manuals and might order a parts book if I think I need it.Still looking for a good web site on Olivers but I think this site is as good as any for friendly help for parts and info.

The Super-66 is a good 2-3 row plow row-crop tractor. It uses the same 4-cyl engine as the Super-55, just in a different form-factor tractor. If you want a conventional tractor (high seat), the Super-66 will suit you fine, but it is a 4 cyl engine. The Super 77 is the same except it is 6 cyl.

Engine parts are easy, sheet metal is tough.
