I have just got a 550 oliver industrial tractor, loader and backhoe.I'm trying to find out what year it is, and whats the deal with the loader and hoe brand. My loader has a emblem of "Henry". Any ideas thanks for the help.

did you get into your brakes yet? i'm in the same predicament. there are adjustment bolts which can be tightenned although i've seen warnings about overtightenning them. i need some hyraulic fluid for my power steering before i can test whether or not the adjustment bolt tweaking was all i needed. i recommend getting the manual (paper or cd).

I own a 1974 Oliver 550, also with a loader. I do not know if it is the same as your industrial. I have the I& T shop manual which is basically an overview. It only has a short section on th brakes. The Oliver shop manual is much better, but expensive (over $100 copies can be purchase from the Floyd County Museum in Iowa I believe) It can also be purchased on CD at ESPCOR.COM for about $20. I have this and it is good quality. It shows you everthing about the brakes. The brakes on mine are quite simple. Both brakes pedal pivot on the brake pedal cross shaft. The pedals have a short linkage which goes into a large round cover on each side that holds each brake assenbly. It is a double disc assembly with a steel plate in the center. The plate has divots in it and a few large ball bearings. When the brake linkage is pulled down the plate rotates and expands the brake linings outward to contact the brake cover and the tractor frame. Not at all like a conventional car disc brake system with calipers and pads over the discs. I had to dissasemble mine last year to replace the oil seals. This can be done from the outside, no need to tear into the rear end for any of this. I would highly recomend the ESPCOR Manual, but the brakes are quite simple and could be done easily without the manual. Good Luck.

Does your tractor have any equipment mounted on it that has a sub frame?
