I was wondering if anyone has worked on the drive clutch on one of these? I have a grinding noise and not convinced it is the motor. The sound is not consistant with the motor RPM, and I find no metal in the oil.
I think it may be bushing or clutch throw out related. I would like to have an idea what i may be getting into.
According to the manual you can access the clutch below the gas tank under a cover.
It appears the clutch is two parts and accessable without removing the motor like you would in a truck.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have free travel on the clutch? Yes you can take that cover off and look in there. Have you shorted out the plugs to see if the noise goes away?

If I turn the motor over out of gear without the plug wires attached I can still hear a clunk occationally.(I have run a battery out doing this)
Does this test mean it is possibly in the motor?

Me: I would hook the plug wires up and then unhook them one at a time with the engine running and see if I could make the noise go away. Remember noise travels to. Get a long wooden handled screwdrive and place it in the area of the crankshaft with the handle end close to your ear and listen to see if the tone of the noise changes.
