I have a 28-44 whose serial number makes it a 1937. What is obviously,physically different about the high-compression models to help one determine if, indeed, it is an HC model ? Is the gas tank different ? Did they stamp the tag as 32-50 or with an HC ?? Is there a certain part number on the head ? Maybe a different carb ?? I'm aware that Oliver put a high compression head on these models but is that it and how do you tell without pulling the engine apart ?? Thanks in advance.

Thanks much guys ! I only knew about the different head so the rest of the info is refreshing. Looks like mine isn't one of the HC models as it certainly isn't a 4-speed. Thanks again.

All High Compression Specials have AC33 stamped behind the serial number. They all have starters, 4-speed transmissions, high compression heads, have large OLIVER with small Hart-Parr on the radiator top, Hart-Parr cast into the left side of the block, fixed speed governors. Not to be confused with the Oliver Thresherman's Special.

The part no's are stamped under the valve cover, there were three different heads avaiable for that series of motors. The A180A is Kerosene the E head is gas and the D head is high altitude. The E head has the round plugs on the manifold side with the square holes in them. I think all of the high compression models were four speeds.
