I have a 1855, around 4000 hrs, bought it last year, and I didn't notice it then, but this spring,it started growling in all gears, 2nd position. if you drop it down to low and then back up, it would be fine. High always made noise, would not go away, I don't know much about Olivers, but would like to know what to check out. Thanks. P.S. I was pulling a digger in 4th gear.

This isn"t a chain that I can find, the thottle and the over/under lever are both on the same pivot, this goes into the dash/console on the right side, from here there are a series of rods that pivot and end at a fork that pulls or pushes on a stud coming out of the right front of the transmission. There is a bolt with a locking nut on it, on the bottom of the bellhousing, is this the adjusting bolt? and what are the adjustments that I need to make.

I haven't checked either of those items, because I didn't know what I was looking for, do I have to take the dash/console apart to get to the chain or is it under floor pan?

You get at it from underneath, nothing has to be taken apart up above.

The chain coupler is under the fuel tank at the end of the over/under. You can also get access from under the tractor. Check to see how well the chain fits around the sprockets. If the chain is original it will likely need replacing. I think the chains are about $40. Not alot of room to work, but it is not too hard to replace. Stu.

Also, there's a stud that supports the over/under and goes through the bottom of the frame. This adjustment is important, and can cause noise if stud is broken, missing, misadjusted etc.

Have you checked or replaced the chain coupler between the over/under and the transmition? You may need to adjust the alignment of the over/under and replace the coupler. Do you have any vibration? Hopethis helps, Stu.
