It doesn't want to slide down the long neutral into the bottom gears.....top gears it hits fine.

I'm guessing somebody had it out and didn't get it back in right. I did that once. Sorry I can't be more help,it's been a while since I've messed with one,but pull the shift out, being careful not to drop those springs, see that everything is lined up,J Schweibert or somebody will have a better memory of what it should look like in there than I can remember. I wouldn't worry too much about it being a major problem,I think it's just in wrong.

Had same problem somewhat with 88, pulled gear shift lever and noticed that alignment pins that are spot welded to shift lever had broken loose. Re-welded alignment pins and shifts like brand new.

Are you saying that you can't get your transmission to shift from HIGH RANGE neutral to LOW RANGE neutral? My 77 seems to have the same problem. I flushed to transmission good with diesel fuel, removed the mechanical lift cover, examined the rails, forks, bearings and gears-everything looked good. So with the cover off and shift lever out of the transmission everything worked good. Could shift into all gears and both neutrals easily. Put everything back together and it wouldn't shift right. Now I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the ball at the lower end of the shift lever.I know this is not an answer but maybe some out there can help both of us. See my posting "Oliver 77 Transmission Shift Lever" Dated 4/24/07

More detail on "not going in gears" please. As in does it not want to go into the slot or it doesn't pull when in those gears?
