There are actually 2 shafts. In either case you have to remove the rear PTO housing/cover, where you will have access to both shafts. There is a driven shaft that implements are connected to at the rear of the tractor. It has a gear on it at the base of the PTO housing and that gear is driven from another shaft that extends into the transmission. According to my 1250 Service Manual both shafts can be removed from the rear after the PTO housing/cover is removed.

The procedure says to drain the differential and gearbox oil, then set the PTO control lever for engine drive. Hope this helps.

That's too bad. I can't believe he would start that high. I would never have done that. Hey, did you see the three 1250's on ebay a couple weeks ago? They never met the reserve so I guess they didn't sell. I contacted the seller to see if either of them had the 24v generator/governer unit and 2 of them did. I didn't bid because I don't have anywhere to put 3 more tractors, especially 3 Oliver 1250's. Anyway I tried to contact the seller after the auction to see if I could purchase one or both of those generators, but never got a reply. Oh well, the hunt continues.

Hey Kenny. I saw a 1250 gasser sell on an auction last saturday for 2000. Poor bugger didn't know what he was doing. He started that monstrosity out for that and got stuck with it in one bid.
