Have this tractor and Iam wanting to try to start it. Put a wrench on the front and tried to turn it but it only moved a little. What do I need to do next? Was told to put some marvel mystery oil in it to loosen it up but where do I put it in at. the oil fill or somewhere else?

Guiss I need to look closer. My diesel experince slim. The one & only stuck one I run onto had several spun crank bearings

If the engine only turns a little in either direction, then I'm thinking that there is water in the cylindars. The fact that the exhaust pipe is open to the elements confirms this idea.

However, Like J said, make sure the pump is not stuck before doing anything else first.

Gee A lot of people don't recognize an older Oliver Diesel. Now if the engine is stuck I would also wonder if the plunger in the injection pump is stuck. If it is and you get the engine free and it snaps, kiss 800 dollars good by!. I would take the pump off or if you are a diesel wiss kid take the timing window off remove the control unit and make sure the meeting blocks if not, Send the pump out!. J.

This brings me to something I'd never heard of before. I saw it on Prairie Farm Report a few weeks ago. A guy had a Canadian built tractor, around 1909 I believe. He'd been offered 60,000 for it as is,so it was valuable. It had a hit and miss engine in it that was stuck. He said he freed it up by putting oil in the cylinders and boiling it with a pencil heater. Never heard of such a thing, but it makes sense, lube and heat.

If its a diesel pull the injectors and pour that ATF on top of the pistons. Keep using that wrench
to move the engine. You may need to pull the head if it doesn't free up. Hal

Is that the original engine?? If so, the designer should've been fixed so he couldn't inflict himself on future generations, the way he made the water go around those reverse curves on the top radiator hose...

It's a straight hose. Or is that too complicated for you?

Well first off pull all the plugs out then try to turn it over by hand. If its still hard FILL all the cylinders with tranny fluid. Forget diesel fuel, PB blaster WD brake fluid etc. TRANNY fluid is the best ya I know I'm yelling at you but I've been there done that and have done well with tranny fluid as in 1 out of 10 that did come free. That tractor looks like a 77 am I right??

Hi Scott, Need to put The oil down the spark plug holes. I"d use diesel fuel. Be sure you mark your plug wires &put them back on the right plugs. Try taking off your starter & turning the fly wheel with a bar. I"ve had good luck with a bar on the flywheel. Good luck

You don't on an Oliver. I'd say if you have to ask a question like that you better just stay away from it and hire a mechanic.

First off, you need to determine if the problem is the engine or the drive train. Put it in sixth gear and rock it back and forth, once with the clutch disengaged--everything should move, including the shaft between the transmission and the bell housing.
If it is OK, then you can probably assume it is in the engine. There are a lot of things it could be, ranging from the pistons to valves.
My approach would be (if I am sure it is the engine that is stuck) to remove the cylinder head. You will learn a lot awful fast that way. Once you see what you have, write again and let us know.
