Hey guys I am looking for things to look for or tips while rebuilding my 770 engine. I need your collective wisdom. I have decided to use flat top pistons as I don't need the extra power, Mostly bush hogging and local shows. I don't want to make a mistake so give me some tips. I am a back yard mechanic only. Chris

The crank end of the rod is offset of center. They can only go in one way on the crank.Narrow side must be instaalled facing the nearest main bearing.

Probably the best thing to do is label everything when you dis-assemble so you know where it goes when you put it back. I would really recommend a Oliver Shop Manual (Floyd Co. Museum has them or eBay). I have one and it made redoing a Super 88 really easy with its step by step procedures and pictures.

What about the rods? I know they alternate but just cannot figure out the differences. The manual says something about a narrow end but I can't see a narrow side or end? Chris

If there is anything to that it's news to me. I checked the I&T maunal and it doesn't say anything about it. It refers you to the 770 880 supplement, but that only mentions the wrist pin bushings. Maybe somebody else can help us both out on it if I'm missing something.

Don't know that there are any real tricks to them or anything special to watch out for, such as left hand threads, special installation tips and such. Pretty simple and straight forward. They are a wet sleeve. If you change them, make sure the block is clean and not pitted. If you need torques and clearances when you are putting it together, just ask. Somebody will give you what you need.
