What is the best way to remove the steering wheel on my 550? Will a jaw type puller work?
Also, what is the small flat head machine screw for that is located on the front side of the steering post?
Thanks.

 Got it,,thanks in reply to SW3, 04-07-2007 22:09:06
I used a 3 jaw puller, used a smaller nut to protect the top of the steering post. It came off fairly easily by putting gradual pressure on the puller, and tapping on the puller bolt with a hammer.

Cover your cowl and gages with wet cloth, beat plastic off steering wheel at the center. Loosen nut. Heat with good torch, pour a little water on splines. Do this two or three times, then lift up on wheel while someone taps on the spline shaft with a hammer. Careful not to damage splineshaft and nut.Be patient it may take a few tries. A Thanks to Jim Kline in Ohio for this info.

In your assortment of pullers do you have a "bearing splitter"? If it was me I would put the splitter on the bottom side and then attach my leg type or jaw type puller to it. That way you have a better contact surface on the bottom. I remember asking my service rep that 45 plus years ago and I don't remember what he told me. Happy Easter! J.
