This is my set-up to raise my loader. It lowers by gravity. The bucket is a chain-operated trip that is a pain in the a**. I want to add one or two single-action cylinders to add down-pressure to that bucket. I can level it with the loader's gravity. The rear hoses can operate a log splitter (one is disconnected in the photo).

Without adding a whole new hydraulic pump, can I just swap the shut-off valve for a gate-type, one-in, two-out valve and add a new hose from that valve to the bucket cylinder?

Why don't you keep it simple and add double acting cylinders. Are you going to use the bucket cylinders the same time you raise the bucket? Do you know what is commonly called a divter valve is? They have oil in one port and you have two possiable out routes. They are for one way only the way you want to go. Also how about a spliter valve or how about a 2 spool Gresen Sp with float? J/

Well, I would love to add double-acting cylinders, but I do not how to do that with my Oliver-issue external valve. If someone can tell me how, I will do it.
Diverter valve. I guess that is what I meant by one-in, two-out, with a lever to divert to one or other cylinder(s). I already made the assumption that I would not be able to use both the bucket and the loader at the same time. Compared to using the trip, this is no inconvenience. I also assumed that I could only fit a single-acting cylinder.
I have no idea what you mean by 2 spool Gresen Sp with float, but I will look it up. I am new to farm hydraulics, as you can tell.

Hello, I have an Allied loader on my 550. Both bucket and loader cylinders are double acting. As J said, when I try to use both loader and bucket cylinders at the same time they are extremely slow. It is no big deal. The down pressure is nice and will lift the front end of the tractor right up. It is especially usful when you get a little stuck while moving snow. Then you can use the bucket to push yourself out. Oh, my loader is plumbed in off the tractors pump like yours, but not with an original Oliver valve,,it uses some type of 'power beyond' Cesna valve. I have a tripple spool valve with float. These are the levers that control your cylinders. The float is on the loader cylinder lever. This allows you to push the lever all the way forward and it 'clicks.' The loader will will then slowly lower to the ground as the fluid is being allowed to free flow. This is also usful when moving snow as it allows the loader to move up and down with the contour of the ground. I have pics of my set up I can e-mail you if needed. Good luck.

Dear J and SW3...thank you for your comments. That snow clearing versatility you talk of sounds great! I do use my 550 for snow clearing and moving compost.
I am now looking at a Gresen pdf. You must mean something like their SPK or SSK series.
I presume that you think I should replace my Oliver external valve with such?
How would I make a Gresen valve block fit a 40 year old tractor hydraulic housing?

Hey Chris, I forgot to mention. My previous tractor was a 8n with a dearborn pipe loader. It had single acting cylinders on the loader, and double acting on the bucket. It worked just fine. The major disadvantage was with no down pressure it was no help when you got stuck.
