After a week of sitting apart I put the Super 55 back together. While sitting there were no oil drips at all. The day after it's back together I have a small puddle of trans oil. It is leaking out of the small cover under the transmission. So is the spider seal the problem? If so is it a tough one to change?

The hardest part to this fix is you have to make a spanner wrench unless you can find an old dealer that happens to have one. I put seals in on a 550 and a super 55 since the first on the year. It was pretty straight forward after making the wrench. I used a cherry picker to hold up the front end and a jack under the rear. I got the seals from Korves. Good luck , TC

Where do you use the spanner wrench? What part does it remove?

You use the spanner wrench to remove the hub that hold the PTO discs. There is a seal behind this hub. The hub is held on by a slotted nut that takes a spanner wrench to remove. TC

OK thanks. I'm probably going to split it again tomorrow. I worked on a 1927 Ahrens Fox fire truck today. We were able to get the new clutch in but what a job! Tractors (even the hard ones) are much easier...

Sounds like your pto seals between the shaft and the clutch or between the clutch cage and the transmission housing---HTH

Ok so split it again and start pulling parts from the front? Does it all just slide off from the front? Does anyone have the seal numbers so I can get those ordered? I think this is just too large of a leak to not take care of at this point although dissapointing to say the least.
