Can someone tell me if I can use a 77 block (or super 77) to replace my 770 block which is cracked? Will my crank, cam, governor, water pump and all that stuff fit? I was told it would but thought I"d ask you guys. Any disadvantages? Thanks Chris

Well I welded the 770 block up last afternoon using "Muggy Weld" rods. It turned out real good! I ground everything down and it looks like it is water tight. I am taking it to the machinist tonight so he can magna flux it to check for cracks. Still a little concerned about the top of the engine block with the cracks between the sleeves but I am gonna see what my machinist thinks as well. Thanks guys. Chris

Ok thanks for the replys, Guess I'll have to look elsewhere. I am welding the block tomorrow after work with a rod called 'Muggy Weld 77'. It is specific for cast iron. My crack is a 6-7inch crack along the side of the block. I think it'll be a good weld! I feel like my real problem is that on top between the cylinders there are cracks, now I know some are saying those cracks won't hurt anything because the head gasket will seal them up. The problem is that mine has lifted just a hair on on side creating a lip that I am afraid won't seal up with the gasket. Not sure the head being torqued on there will push it down in place either. What is you guys opinions. Don't tell me not to weld I have already tossed that one around for a while. I am a welder and it's in my nature to weld it so I'll will try it. I have welded some cast in the past. Do you guys think the top will seal? It is not raised much but my finger catches the lip as I run my finger one way across it. Just looking for some opinion. Thanks Chris

Based on your description I would set the sleeves in and clamp them down with bolts and washers or whatever works.

Check the sleeve protrusion and if it is in spec I believe it will seal. This is based partly on a similar situation with 77.

crank will not fit, different size journals
77 has 2in mains and super/770 has 2.25in

It's the rod journals not the mains that are differnt. Have offset ground a 770 crank to put in a 77 easy to do.

How bad is the block cracked? We just fixed a crack in a Super 77 Diesel with a product called Lock N Stich. Crack was about 4 inches long and it leaked water big time.

Worked great was easy to do and saved us having to find another block.
