I'm going to look at and maybe purchase an 88 diesel tomorrow, and I was wondering if there is anything besides the obvious, that I should be checking for? Anything that may be subtle, that they are known for. Thanks

While there are several things to look for when inspecting a tractor of this age, I'll let the other guys address those. As far as the tractor itself is concerned they are a ROCK SOLID machine. They were the absolute best of the best when they were new. If you had an 88 diesel back in the day you had the absoulute top of the line the Row Crop market had to offer. Dad bought 2 of these tractors new, we still have 1 of them.

Yup,if it hasn't fallen off a truck or been through a serious barn fire, you can't go wrong.
