Hydraulic Valve and Flow Rates

I am about ready to buy a Prince hydraulic valve for my loader on the 1755. The valve has a max flow of 16 GPM. Since this flow rate is lower than the tractor I am guessing that it will just be the limiting factor and the loader wont be able to move as fast as it would with a larger flow valve. The restriction in the valve wont actually cause any problems such as cavitation will it? Thanks

Well first things first, Your pump is rated at 20 GPM @rated engine speed. That is also the theoretical pump displacement which is how all hydraulic pumps are rated. Now that pump is 90% effecient at best, used pump figgure 85%. So now you are talking 17-18 GPM actual flow at rated speed. If you run the engine say 1800-2000 RPM while using the loader your pump flow with match up with valve capacity. However on the caviation issue, do adjust the speed of drop so that it is very smooth, in other words you want the hydraulic flow to force the loader down, not the weight of the load on the loader. Do you have a diffuser in your return line assuming you are using a seperate return line to the reservoir? More questions? Clear as mud? J.

No, dont have a defuser in the line. What is that? A flow control?

No. It also helps slow down the return oil velocity which helps to keep air out of the oil thus lessening the probability of cavatation at the pump which kills a pump especially a piston pump. Send me a U S mail address and I will send a copy to you but need to do before I go out of town in about 10 days. J.
