Hi guys, its been awhile since I posted but I read about everyday. Here is my problem, I have a cracked block and I can fix it but I'd like to pursue a good used block. I bought one on e-bay 2-3 months ago for $120 but I am having trouble getting this guy nailed down long enough to pick up my block which is 4 hrs from my house (west central Indiana). He seems nice enough but I don't get an e-mail back from him sometimes until 2-3 weeks after I write him. I would like to find another source for a 770 block as I don't believe he is gonna come thru for me. So my question...(sorry so lengthy) Does someone on this site have a block or know of a good source. Needs to be kinda close to Indian and reasonably priced. Also can I use a 77 block and put all my 770 stuff in it? If I can it might give me more options. Thanks everyone in advance. Chris

Thanks for the replys. No this crack is not fatal and I"ll probably try to repair it but I thought it would be nice to start with a uncracked block. I"ll probably take my time repairing the crack and research the best repairs. I will definitely e-mail and call you guys that have a block. I need a gas block. Chris

Cracks in the top of block between the cylinder bores usually don't have to be repaired. They are held together by the head. My 88 diesel has been like that for over thirty years with no problems.
Cracks on the lower part of the block between the sleeves are not good, though.

I have a 770 block. Will be going near Fort Wayne to South Whitley tractor auction in two weeks. Give me a call 301-387-9069.

If my info is correct, the blocks for diesel and gas are the same. The gas block uses a busing in the front to support and align the governor. The diesel does not have the bushing, but is machined for it so the block can be used in either application.

I am sure some one will provide much more accurate details.

Just curious---where is the block cracked? Not all cracks are fatal.
