I noticed a oil lek under the three speed on my 2255. I assumed that it was the three speed itself leaking. I found that the final drive section was way over full. I guess that all of the hyd. fuid is now there. What would cause this? Is there a certain seal that I should be looking at? Would tha final drive section being overfull cause the leak at the coupler area?

Thanks for the help.

Its most likely the pto seals leaking the hydrolic oil into the rear. It could allso be a cracked or leaking pan or pump seal. The pto is most likely.

When I pulled the main shaft there was allot of oil that came out. I have the engine out now. What seals should I replace now to prevent problems in the future?

The pto is a somewhat self-contained unit, and that is most likely the problem. The pto uses hydraulic oil for some lubrication and for operation, so even when not in use there is still oil flowing. Your leak could simply be a seal or ring, but you'll have to remove the unit and inspect/disassemble it to be sure because sometimes the bearings will fail from oil starvation. Relatively simple unit, but a parts book is a great resource to have for these projects as an aid in reassembly and for giving your parts supplier a big help in sending you the right items.
