I have a what I thought was a '55 Super 55. Ever since I bought it, it has leaked around the oil filter. This leak turned into a "major" leak. It is leaking right between the oil filter and the extension that the oil filter screws on to. I have tried different filters (from Napa) with the same results. Anybody else had this problem? The oil filters do not seem to be "tight" when you screw them on and you crank up the tractor and after a few seconds it starts to pour!!!

Any body else ever had this problem?
What is the correct filter?

I have visually inspected my oil filter adapter and it looks fine.

Also, what is the best "service manual" as far as repairing one and where do I get it?

Thanks in advance.

I had a filter leak problem when I changed oil in my 88 installing a NAPA filter. The new rubber gasket was not quite as thick as the Carquest one I had taken off, so I reused the Carquest gasket and have had no problems since.

OK. I will try the 550 adapter.
Where can I find one?

Thanks in advance.

I've had that same problem with Carquest oil filters on my 77. The rubber gasket is too thick. I salvaged a thinner one off of another filter, and since those threads are tapered and it wasn't going deep enough to get a grip,it works fine with that other gasket. Guess the genius engineers sitting at their computers didn't compensate for that. But yea,it would come down tight and if you put that last little twist on it,it would cross thread and pop right out.

It happen to me and when I took the oil filter base off to check, I found the return port was plugged up with old filter material. You may want to upgrade the oil filter base with a 550 model made of cast iron. The filter will fit on much better.

good luck

What is the NAPA filter number you are using? I will check the number on mine today.
