Was moving some wrapped hay from the fields where we left it this summer to where the cows are now.

Got the big G-1355 out and pulled the gooseneck around since it is a little muddy out for the pickup trucks to be moving that kind of weight. I figure those bales weigh about a ton each and we had 11 of them behind the big Moline going down the road. Only had to pull direct 6th gear on one hill, so not too bad.

The 1850 MFWA is there unloading them. Just another day here in the mud.....

Hey Shep,On your 1850 is that air conditioning on thetop of the cab? How does that setup work? Wonder if they are still available? We just got snow today so I guess we'll be playing in the mud to.

Yeah, that is some kind of air conditioning system that is not hooked up at the moment. I have the compressor in the shop, but need the high pressure lines that go up to it and I dont even know if all the stuff in the top works or not. It really does not look factory, but I really have not crawled up there to check it out. Sorry, I dont know much about it.

It is raining today so I guess the mud is getting deeper.....

Glad you had better luck than I did. We had a thaw that took out most of the snow, but it was cold and frozen up again with winter storm warnings out for overnite. I took the one ton dually 4x4 and gooseneck out. Snow was still around the outside of the field and along the bales. I"ve never seen anything like it. Snow was so hard I drove up on it,then broke through and it was just crystals of slick ice underneath. I worked 2 hours getting one load. Some days it just doesn"t pay to get out of bed.

Yeah I know, that was all I could find at the time, and I need about two or three more of them on there if I am gonna pull the gooseneck trailer around on the three point hitch.

I will have to keep my eyes open for some MM weights for the front. I needed my duals on for that load too. I was going to put them on last week, but I cant fit the tractor in the shed with the duals on right now. Too many toys and not enough shed.....

Thanks for the comments.

Nice setup! I move wrapped round bales with a forklift on the back of a 656. Its a real pain. I see your wrap isnt the white stuff. More of a green/blue color. Hows that work? I see an ad in Lanc Farming for BLACK bale wrap. Its supposed to be cheaper. Anyone try it?

yes, that is a nice setup! i've never used it but i would think that black would absorb too much heat from the sun and damage the hay somehow. then again, that blue/green color is an absorbing color too, so maybe it doesn't really matter.

You guys are correct, the darker plastic makes more heat in the bale. White wrap is the coolest and we use that early in the spring. Most people use the white year round and it works great.
The green is a little warmer on the bale and we use that on Trudan or Perl Millit with the thicker stems and normally when we bale later in the year. This gets more heat on the bale and cooks the stems better. The down side is that the sun breaks down the plastic faster so you need to use the bales the same year you bale them. The black is for Canada or northern areas to get heat in the bales to insile them. Black is too hot for most of the US, and it overcooks the bales. Clear plastic it the hottest of them all and bales will literally explode from the heat and the gasses the bales build up.

Most people love the Green becuase it blends in with the fields better than the white bales. We made a mistake of putting a bunch of green bales on a rented field one year and now the owner pushes us to only use the green and not the white becuase it blends in better... Good Greif...
