I put a ball valve and 1/4" rubber line and filter on my 88. Now it will run the filter out of gas.Is 1/4" too small? How about 5/16"? Thanks; Ben

here's a way to think about it. if you just let the gas run out on the ground with your 1/4" line, how long would it take to empty the tank? would the motor use that much gas? my race cars may use that much gas but i don't think your oliver would. just an idea.

Keep in mind I pull with mine, but I use clear in line filters. My fuel system is 3/8" and my tractors never run out. No pump. The filters do not appear "full". I know of two neighbors that use 5/16" filters with no problems on tractors they rake hay with. Is your fuel line positioned so that the fuel is flowing slightly "down"?

Well, I thought about the fuel pump deal and bought one for gravity. Anyway, if I can't get it worked out, I'll clean up the bowl and put the copper line back on. Thanks for your response; Ben!

I use an inline fuel filter on my 14hp garden tractor and it takes 1/4" hose, they may make larger inline fuel filters that can be used on your tractor that's gravity fed. Check with your local auto parts store. Hal

You are probably blocking the gas flow with the in line filter. Most of them were made if you used a fuel pump. There may be filters for gravity flow systems. Hal

If your talking about an in-line fuel filter then your problem is plan and simple. In-line fuel filters are not made for gravity flow fuel system and cause more trouble then they are worth. Hope it back up like it was when it was new and your problem will go away
