I have an original 1958 Oliver 880 diesel, It has the Generator and Porwe Steering pump stack setup on it. I was told that Oliver made a bracket that would allow a person to put an alternator and power steering pump on the tractor. No one seems to be able to tell me any more about the bracket than that one was made. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Any particular reason you want to go to an alternator? Now to answer your question. The very very early 1650 gas tractors had a fabricated bracket that would bolt on the engine for an alternator. I have only ever seen 2. Now later 770 & 880 tractors did have a different power steering pump, again another G-M Saginaw pump. You will need brackets for it and if your front crank pulley is not a double groove pulley you will need to find one of those as well. Be carefull of the statement I heard or i was told, EH. More questions? J.

I don't think has guages are going to work if he changes that to a negative ground alternator are they John? I'll guarantee you there is no reason in the world to put an alternator on that tractor if the generator is rebuilt and working. I have less trouble with my 1600 generator than I do with my 1550 alternator.

I have heard that before also. Don't know, except you know real late 770 tractors came with alternators. I agree I would stay with the generator. I think I might go with the later power steering pump before this one breaks. I guess I should check to see if that filter inside those units is still available. Maybe from some Chevie restoration supply outfit. He probably does not have the sealed bearing on both ends of his generator so he will need to get his oil can out once in a while. I had to laugh about your comment the other day. You said you stopped at Stamm's. Were you in a jam? Later. J.
