About a month ago I asked you a question, and you answered it. Sometime before that you had stated that you worked for White on two different occasions. I think I remember you saying you weren't there in the early 70's, but maybe I's wrong.

I know White moved the engineering department to Hopkins for a while, I think in the 70's. Did you work for White at that time? If not, do you know if any of the White enginners that did work for White at that time are on here, and would answer any questions?

There has been several duscussion lately about Moline tractors painted green and sold as Olivers. I have several pictures of Oliver tractors that never went into production. Two of the pictures are of the Moline/Oliver cross over tractors, and I would like to ask some questions to someone who might have worked on them.

Thank you for any reply.

I was one of the engineers that moved to Hopkins in August of 1970. I was with the company until December of 1976, when I went to work for TORO. I will try to answer any questions that you might have, or will give you names of engineers that can. I don't think any other engineers that worked there at the time regularly post on here.

Dean, If you worked for White before 1976, you probably worked on most of the tractors I have pictures of. I do not have the equipment or the knowledge to post pictures on the computer. I'm not sure they should be posted here anyway. I think it would be better if they were printed in one of the Oliver magazines. So I will only describe one tractor to you at this time.

The picture i'm looking at, I originally thought was taken in Hopkins because it's mostly a Moline tractor, but a closer look you can see a clock on the wall. The clock has the Oliver logo on it, and if the clock was in Hopkins it, most likely, would have had a Moline logo on it.

The tractor looks like a Oliver 2055 with FWA. We know there were no FWA (front Wheel Assist) 2055 built, right??? The rear end looks Moline and the wheels are definitely Moline without the plantary gears. The fenders are Oliver and even though the picture is black and white, the tractor has a dark paint color. The grill looks somewhat like an Oliver.

The weird??? part about this tractor is the front axle and it's mounting to the frame. The frame looks to be an Oliver cast iron tub frame and it has a FWA front end. The mounting of the front end to the frame is with a big two piece casting that goes to about two foot off the floor. I can not tell for sure if it's a Moline engine or not. The tractor looks to be longer than we are normally used too, and the front tires are bigger ( approx.18.4 X 28's) than what was on FWA tractors at the time.

Sorry for my long winded descripton, but I wanted to help you remember. Do you have any idea as to why a tractor, some-what like this (FWA), was never on the market?

Sometime, if I see you at a show, and I have the other pictures with me, I will show them to you. You know what they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words" and I have about used up my share.

Sorry for jumping in here but if Dean doesn't come back to this since it is a few posts back now, post a new topic and ask him about the "CORPORATE" tractor. I think that's what you have pictures of. This was to be a highly advanced tractor with all new components.

I think you are incorrect on the "Corporate" tractor thing. I have a picture of, what I believe to be, that tractor, and it's all together different. The tractor I am talking about is before that.

I have heard that maybe someone is writing an article on the "Corporate" tractor, so I did not want to even mention it.

I have a film from Floyd County Historical Society which shows the tractor that you describe in action, FWA and all. It also shows the various components and new engines being tested. There is no sound to this film or voice over, so no descriptive information. The tractor you described is a ringer to the one on the film. It's my understanding that the tractor in the film is the step beyond the studio mock up pictures which I think you are refering to. Contact Mary Ann in Charles City, I'm sure she will make you a copy.
