This is a continuation of a previous 88 question.

I have yet to look at this tractor since it is a bit of a drive. The guy says the serial number is 1K2002F, but I did not find that type of series in the serial number listing on this site. Is this a correct number?

Also, he said it doesn't have sides and he doesn't know if ever did. Some pictures I see have side tins and others don't. Did Oliver produce these tractors without the side tins?

Thanks
Bob

Your K2002F number is a casting number for a hydraulic casting. It could be found on an 88 or a Super 88 or on a 77 for that matter. Also if your tractor is an early 88 the serial number will be on a tag on the right side of the transmission above the right brake housing.

There will be no lettters in the ser#.
The RC 88's all came with full side sheetmetal while the super 88's had open style sides like the 880.

What is the difference between the 88 and Super?

Are sides hard to find?

The Super88 was a "SUPER" 88.....GREAT TRACTOR. If you had an 88 in 1950 you had the best tractor the row crop market had to offer. Dad had two 88 diesels new, hence my handle on here! The Super88 had the improvements already mentioned plus a larger 265 cu in engine. It was a big hoss back in the day, and my personal favorite.

The number you were given looks like the engine casting number. The serial number is on a tag located below the dash on the left side. The Super series replaced the Fleetline series in '54. The side sheet metal was changed then. Also the front frame casting was modified to include bolt pads on each side in addition to the pipe holes. Through the years there were several modifications to the engine (mostly head design) and hydrolectric, but the tractor remained basically the same through the entire run. The 88s were the best tractor on the market in their day. ADB P.S. Yes you can get good reproduction side curtains for them (Lynch Farms, I believe) or sometimes you see them for sale on e-bay.
