Can anyone tell me everything I would need to make a 310 diesel found in the 1755 like the turbocharged 310 in the 1955? I know that there is a turbo and oil cooler, is there anything else to worry about?

Actually it is mostly for pulling, and the motor is in a 1655. The tractor mostly just pulls a big wheel rake in the summer and some odd jobs, sometimes mowing hay, until pulling season gets going. I'd just like to get some cheap, easy power to add to it so I can put Oliver in the winner's circle at the local fairs. Since the exhaust manifolds are the same on the 1755 & 1655, I thought it wouldn't take much to put on a turbo. I'd just need the turbo and oil cooler, the engine already has the 12-point rod bolts. I'd have to ask dad about the one piece bushings, since he rebuilt the engine about 10 yrs ago. Still runs great, but there are just too many 4020s with turbos, you know how that goes...

I just rebuilt my 1855 w/ oil cooler.. From as far as I know it is the 1955 block.. I updated to 1 pc pin bushings..12pt rod bolts...extended oil pan 20 qts now...Still couldn't pull 5/18's in SE WI clay...But really snorts hauling 800 bushels of beans to town..

If you farm with this tractor and are on a budget listen to J. take your money and buy a different tractor, stuck six grand into my 310 in my 1955 its completely gone through but after reading posts on this site the last year makes me nervous just haying and feeding cows with it. If money is not the object read up on this engine in the archives and ask many questions so you get everything done while you got it apart, my 2 cents, there are guys on here that know these engines inside and out, listen to them and good luck whatever you decide.

Take the money you were going to use on this project double it because of things you didn't think of and apply it toward a larger tractor. I remember the first service school after the 1950T was introducted and they said don't be trying to turbo a 1750 and after they showed us the changes and using a little common sense with that it is not the way to go. More questions? J.

If I remember right there are 3 different blocks and heads for the 310 between the 1755, 1950T and 1955. SOme of the 1755's had oil coolers and some didn't. I had one that did. I would start with a fresh rebuild including 1 piece wrist pin bushings, and the 12pt rod bolts. Make sue the liners have enough protrusion I can't remember if the compression ratio is different for the turbo 310, but would think it should be lower. So be sure to get the right pistons. Then all you would need is the turbo and plumbing. The manifolds should be the same. We have a 1955 engine in our 1750 running about 135hp. NO problems except for the head gasket blowing, because of our 160+ hp at times when pulling and low liner height. It got coolant in the oil this spring, I'm sure a liner O/R. So we're going to rebuild it and fix this problem.

Not a good idea but if you must:In addition to already mentioned. The pistons and rings are different as well as injectors and pump settings. Use only the H.D. bearings from your agco dealer. Set inj. timing at TDC or not to exceed 2 degrees adv. adhere to serv. bullitins on this eng. copies are available. Too much info. to cover here. Feel free to contact me. Frank

I think the head bolts are bigger on the 1955 over the 1755 they show a different head gasket number.I have two 1855 with the two diffeerent 310s one with oil cooler and the other with out but has a add on auxiliary cooler that sits under the oil filter.

Iam not an expert, and there are others who know more than me,but I have been collecting info to either upgrade my 1750w310 or go to a 1950T. Somethings I have been told are:Larger oil capacity(pan modification),wrist pin and connecting rod bolt upgrades are a must, even if you're not going with a turbo. Also looking at my 1750 with the hood of I wonder if a smaller fuel tank,to make room for turbo and larger air intake?Maybe go with fender tanks? Just my thoughts.Goodluck!
