When I release the clutch pedal, the clutch doesn"t engage immediately. Then all of a sudden it does and the tractor jumps ahead. I don"t see anything binding in the equipment outside the bell housing, could there be something sticking inside. Thankyou for any suggestions!!

Could the clutch disk be hanging up on the splined shaft? CENTAUR

One possibility is that the throw-out bearing holder is hanging up on the sleeve that it slides on. Over the years crud can build up on the sleeve and make it hard for the bearing holder to slide on it. You could disconnect the rod from the clutch pedal, pull it out and then unbolt the bell housing. You can slide it back on the transmission shaft far enough to spray brake cleaner on the sleeve to clean it up. spray it good with some moly lubricant and that should cure your problem. As long as your in there, check out everything else in there to make sure that there are no more problems.
