After a lot of work, tearing the engine down twice, repainting three times, and learning to hate yellow paint, the Big G-1355 finally rolled out of the shop under its own power this week.

It has a new 585ci Moline engine with a custom built Turbo set up, and it ran 160 HP for two hours on the dyno with no smoke at all. It has a new hydraulic filter system with spin on oil filters, a 2-150 block with external oil pump, and custom swing out flashers to go over the duals. Oh yeah, and some custom paint on the front of the tractor to keep its Lousiana heartage :-)

Dont worry guys, it sounds and runs better than it looks... Wish you could hear it, but I will post you a few pictures for now.

Say Shep, That yellow paint won't look right on your place. I'll be up there in a week or so and get it dirty for you if you like. Being a neaighbor it's nearly my duty you know.

Congratulations on the news. That's great to read. Mike

Yeah, I have had quite a few projects in the shop here lately, and me and the wife are expecting our first child in March so I will likely be fewer and further between on my posts, but I will keep in touch.

Thanks

The best way I have found is to start with buff primer then very light on the Yellows may take 3-4 times to cover good.

That is one HOT looking tractor. Gotta agree with you, that yellow would take some getting used to.

Nice Job as always! I truely enjoy your pics. Sure haven't seen anything like that in FL or where I am today.

The name for that Moline color is "energy yellow". I agree, its a little intense. Re the chili peppers- I saw a picture of a cute Nash at Bonneville Salt Flats that had its "flames" made of chili peppers instead- some ends turned up, some down, you get the idea. Would look great on a honkin' Moline, esp. at the pulls. I don't think the pic was on the internet, but it may have been posted by someone somewhere. Great job on the tractor, its always a pleasure to see your projects. Unlike those of many of the rest of us, yours actually get done!

Ohhh let me tell you a story about that paint. Mike is correct the color is "Energy Yellow" It also crossed very closely to "Pensky Yellow" you know all those Penskie moving trucks you see running around.

Well I have been used to painting meadow green, or clover white, or even prire gold, and have never messed with an intense yellow before. Let me tell you if you have never painted that color it is an experience.

I put the normal mixture in my gun and started out painting the sheet metal while I was still working on the tractor. First piece I painted, runs everywhere. So I wiped it down and started over, backed the gun down, still runs everywhere. This paint runs terrible, does not cover worth a hoot, and you have to paint it so think that the guns clog up. What a mess....

It has something to do with the yellow paint not having enough pigment in the paint or something, it is just with bright yellows.

I finally ended up painting the entire tractor with a paint brush for three coats until it covered and then spraying it twice to cover the brush marks.

Then after all of that I had to tear the tractor back down again and put a BLACK 2-150 block in it. Dont even ask how many coats it took to get that yellow.

So after all of that it actually does look pretty good, and it surly stands out, but if I ever have to paint it again it will become a meadow green Oliver G-1355 :-)
