Kenny, don't get too excited,I didn't find an original, but I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. I have a governor here off of a Massey 300 gas combine that runs off of a belt. {fan belt} If you have a torch and welder I'm sure it could be rigged up to work. I don't want to sell this one,but any combine that used an automotive or industrial engine used them. Massey 300,New Idea 701-702 etc. Call Worthington or Mid South or such and I'm sure you'll find one. This won't solve the 24 volt generator problem, but it will get it running without it racing.

Jeff in Louisiana said that he had tried a belt driven governor on his 1250 and wasn't able to make it work correctly. I had thought about doing this and still may give it a try if I can get my hands on a governor at a reasonable price (cheap!!!). If not, I believe I can control the runaway RPM's if I just reconfigure the throttle linkage direct to the carb.

For a remote, belt driven governor? I haven't looked anywhere yet. I would really rather have the correct setup. I've checked all the import tractor parts resources mentioned throughout this forum and have numerous email's floating around in cyberspace. There are a few tractor salvage yards close by that I haven't check in yet, but I'd be willing to bet they don't have one. I've been in those yards before and haven't seen anything close to one of these 1250 Olivers. I have found a couple of almost, if not complete tractors for sale for parts, but I really don't want another whole tractor. However, that may be the only way I'll ever get the correct parts I need.

If you do get it to work,I had a thought on that generator too. Go on the John Deere forum and ask if a 730 diesel ELECTRIC start tractor had a 12 or 24 volt generator. I had one here for a while and can't remember. I know they were a 24 volt starter. They had 4 six volt batteries in series, but had 12 volt lights, and I had a 12 volt radio on it. The lights and radio stopped working once and I asked an old JD 2 cylinder mechanic if the switch might be bad. He said that there was a ground wire between the second and third batteries and asked if that was broken. It doesn't make any sense that you could put a ground wire in there without burning it right off or blowing something up. But,I put a new wire from the cable between the batteries, down to the frame and everything worked. I wonder if you ground that between the batteries if a twelve volt generator or alternator would work? I just don't want to be responsible for somebody getting hurt trying,so get somebody from down the road to hook it up for you.
