Don"t know if anything prewar was self-propelled, but have some catalog listings that seem to be 30"s/40/s combines, with mix of various Cont and Herc engines. Email if you"d like them. Good luck.

Depends on the model. Early Oliver combine models (pull type) may have come with Wisconsin engines, as was popular in the era before all tractors had ptos. But regarding self-propelled machines, there were early models equipped with Continental engines, as well as Oliver engines, the same as those used in some of Oliver's tractor models, 70, 77/88, etc. Later, after Oliver's combine production was coming from the Cockshutt side, engines were primarily Perkins (diesel) or Chrysler industrial engines (gasoline), and the latter was either a 6 cylinder or I believe two sizes of V8s, the 318 or the 440. I believe that about wraps up the Oliver combines, because by then the name had changed to White on the combines also, and some of those smaller machines were identical to the Olivers, still using either Perkins or Chrysler industrial engines; the larger White 9700/9720 used only a Perkins V8 diesel.

Thanks. I have found a couple of self-prop. sitting in the weeds, and just wondered if the engines were worth pursuing.

You need to know as was mentioned with the Cockshutt built built combines using the Chrysler 6 cylinder engines. They are Canadian engines except for the last year of the 535 and take some different parts when compared to American built L-head engines. The six cylinder Continentals are the F-226 and the F-244 on the model 40 combines.
