70 KD Fuel Question

A friend of mine is restoring a 70 KD. We are wondering what types of fuels are safe to burn in the tractor. Obviously kerosene, but are there other fuels that it will accept? (kerosene is kind of expensive). The tractor will not see any hard work, and will only be used for show. If he wants to run it on gasoline all the time, does he need to install high compression pistons and the gas carb? Or will it perform decent enough with the KD carb and pistons? THanks in advance for any help--RAR

Hi, your comment "will only be used for show" says it all. No "performance" required. Will be slightly less efficient on petrol (gas) due to lower compression ratio. They were often started into work, while warming up on gas, before turning over to kero.

RAB, I have been told that the KD's will run on diesel. Is this true? And are there any other fuels that they will burn? THanks, DL

Never tried it on a very hot engine (Imean working hard and very hot manifold) but mine won"t, under cooler circumstances. How much gas you would need to mix in, to get it to run, I am not sure. My Ollie 90 spiders one plug if it runs on light load on straight 28 second kero for any length of time (due in part to valve head dropping into cylinder a long time ago). I use 3.5:1:0.5 kero, petrol, diesel for "show" type running and straight kero for hard work.
