I have several different models of Oliver tractors and treasure them but have always wanted a Super 99 GM. I have been on the look out for some time now but as we all know, the price on those badboys just gets higher and higher. Well, there is an old home place about 30 min from my house that I was hired to bushhog for some folks. As I was enjoying my day on my 1650 I kept noticing an old barn behind a row of trees. My curiousity got the best of me, so I pulled over and walked through a small stand of trees to this old broken down barn. I mean part of the roof was gone and the foundation was sagging, it was bad. I made my way around the side and went in and what should be sitting on the right in this dusky old barn but a Super 99. I almost pissed my pants!! Excuse my blountness. I immediately examined the tractor and realized that it was all there but the metal was rough. I quickly went and finished my bushogging and called the folks who owned the property. They bought the place at auction and had never had checked the barn. I offered to buy the tractor for 300 dollars hoping they would not know its true value and I GOT IT!!!!! Talk about happy. This is the kind of thing that a collector dreams of. Just teaches you to never quit looking. And to think, I almost never stopped to go look. Well, I hope to have some pics on here soon. Thanks

It should be looked at this way. You saved it from going to a yard. That is the same as buying some item at a auction and making good on it. Restore it with TLC have fun. Good Luck and good hunting those barns long forgotten.

I agree! More than likley you saved that machine from being taken to a scrap yard or buried with the rest of the barn when they tore it down. Good work, and enjoy giving it new life!

Same thing happened to me. Been driving past this old barn for about 16 years. Got into tractors about 6 years ago when I restored my father-in-laws 770. That lead me into collecting Olivers and restoring other tractors for the local Farmers.Well I heard the farmer that owned the barn farmed with Oliver but he had died 20 years ago. Found out my local vet owned it now and gave him a call. He said I could have anything that was in the barn. It had an Oliver 70,an Oliver B-21 mower and two pickup truck loads of parts for other Oliver tractors that were long gone. Wish I had stopped sooner.

Great story but I think I would feel guilty taking advantage of the property own ignorance like that. I know, I'm just silly that way. Lets see some photos.
