I am looking for the miracle cure. I can not for the life of me remove the center pin which holds the front axle assembly to the frame. I tried to use a makeshift hammer puller to pull the pin out but to no avail. Anybody have any good suggestions? I've tried the miracle of Kroil and plenty of heat.

I had to remove my axle on my 550 to replace a broken spindle tube. I could not get the pin out no matter how hard I tried ( I made all different kinds of contraptions to remove it) I ended up making a 500 ft extension cord (I broke down in the woods) drilled out the pin to 1/2" and then cut it out with a hacksaw THat only took three weeks ( in a woods filled with mosquitos)
It was one of those life event that was a bear to endure but is funny now.

Here is a hint:
WHen you put the pin back in MAKE SURE YOU USE ANTI-SEIZE comound on it.I have learned the hard way to use this stuff on ALL the nuts and bolts

dumb question but you have removed the set screw
right?
with a large enough weight on the slide hammer it
should pull out.
i've got one in the barn i'll look and see if
there is any thing funny on the pin i'm forgeting

The procdure to remove this pin[quoting from my shop manual is as follows. After removing the blocking items from Ollie, support the tractor under the main frame, remove the locking bolt and use a sleeve that fits over the pin and place a 1/2 in bolt through and pull it out[book lack mention or rust].This pin is not bushed, Good luck
