Oliver 1755 questions

I'm considering purchasing an Oliver 1755. The paints faded, but the sheet metal is in good shape, it's got a little over 3000 hrs on it, and runs great(diesel). It's a WF, and doesn't have a cab. The Tires are all new, and the hydraulics have all just been gone over. Everything appears to be functional and original.
I have a few questions: There's a gold stripe through the decal. I don't recall seeing it on the other Olivers I've looked at. Does the gold stripe mean anything, or was it just "that years" decal? Are there any known problems with the 1755's I should be aware of?
Is $6000 a fair price?

Thanks
Brian

The stripe is there on all 55 series tractors.

Sounds lke you already gave it a fair exam. One thing to check is the rod bolts. Remove the dipstick and look in the engine with a flashlight. If it has 12 pt bolts it was updated to the better bolts at the least. The 310 had problems in the bigger models with a turbo on it, due to a small oil capacity among other things. You can do a search in this board on the 310 engine, you'll find out about al the problems they had and the remedies.

The 1755's weren't really too prone to failure unless they were turned up and worked hard all day. $6,000 is a little on the high end but the new tires would help offset that a little bit. Is it on a dealers lot or private? See if you can talk them down some, but $6,000 is in the ballpark, unlike some that think they're worth 12,000. Wrong shade of green for that price...
