I think that I kinda want to take my 6 volt + ground to 12 volt. What all do I need? I already need a new coil, voltage regulator, generator. My distributor is getting rebuilt but I think that I can put a resistor between it and the coil ?

If you go with the negative ground you will need to reverse the wires at the ammeter. Are you staying with a generator for appearance? If you go with the alternator you will need a heavier wire between the alternator and the ammeter as well as the alternator has a lot more capacity. #10 wire would be the utmost minimum. Questions? catch me tomorrow night. J.

If you are going to use a 12 volt generator with negative ground you can get a 12 voly coil from NAPA with a built in resistor and the part number is 1C14SB. You will need to polarize the new regulator. Your new coil needs to have the wire from the small - minus terminal connected to the distributor since you're using negative ground. Your light bulbs will need to be changed too.

You could use an alternator with a built in regulator like the GM-SI10 or the Hitachi p/n 14231. Napa's number on that is 2138130. They're smaller than the GM alternator. I may have missed some items. Hal

If I go to - ground do I need to change wiring on Amp. gauge?

I think it would need to be reversed. Hal
