I have been running my Oliver 525 Combine over my bean crop for the year. I am really amazed at how well this machine has been operating, and seperating my beans. I went to purchase a grain cart and saw a gentleman buy a JD combine, I think model 4400. He paid $20,000 for it. While I realize it is more modern, jeez, lot's of money for a machine that appears to be very similar in capacity. We only have 50 acres of grain, and for the $1500 we paid for the 525, with all new belts, bearings, 13ft. grain head and 2-row corn head, seems like a no brainer for us. Maybe we will have to modernize someday, but the way the 525 ran this past week, that will be a long time away.

I know where a nice 2890 MM is at for $500 and a 525 Oliver goes with it for parts. They are the same combine except paint.

I sure hope someone didnt give $20,000 for a 4400 JD.Slick ones are $5,000 or less.

Sounds like your 525 did a fine job. There are none left running in my area but do know of a couple sitting around.

20,000 for a 4400? No way! If I had a 4400 and sold it for 20,000.....well i would be the luckiest guy in the world. Glad to hear you like your 525. There isnt too many Oliver combines left out there, glad yours is going strong:)

I would agree $20,000 for a mid seventies vintage model of JD combine is about 5 times what it is worth. (Must have been a dealer floor model with next to 0 hours on engine and seperator.)

The 4400 is comparable with the 525, although there is nothing technology wise that makes it any more modern, both cut the same crops don"t they?

I"m glad your having fun with the Ollie.

i have 2 4400s that are parked, i would take much less that 5 grand for both, but to say a 4400 and a 525 are comparable is far from true, i had a 535 and it wasnt near as big as a 4400. by the way, the 4400s are both diesels and both engines run.
