585 engine question

OK, I am working on the G-1355 and I am attempting to install an external oil pump and spin on filter system on the 585 engine. I got the system off of a 2-150 White engine.

I "think" the hydraulic circulator pump that mounts on the left front of the engine is "supposed" to hook to the back of the new engine oil pump that I have, but I cant figure out how. Is there a part that comes off the external oil pump to allow the circulator pump to hook up, or do I need another pump or what??

Should have the big MM up and running by the end of the year, there will be lots of pictures when she is running again. Get ready to drool... it looks sharp and sounds mean...

Shep Va,
Have you got the external oil pump figured out yet? I have the green one that J. was talking about. I found my parts book and have a 31 page bulletin about the external lube pump. Let me know if you want a copy. Good luck on the yellow one.

You have the incorrect external oil pump set-up. You need the one for piggy back pumps...Tough to find. I would suggest your best way is to eliminate the engine driven hyd oil cooler circilatory pump, up front and move back to where it is piggy backed by the main hyd system pump. Like the White 2-150 would have or even high serial # 1355 would have, I have a couple 13 that are this way, my 2-150 is also, however my 2255 has the little belt driven pump. Guess you could also go that way find a belt driven pump off an Oliver.

Shep; I hope old G1355 answers your post. Maybe he can send you a picture of his green one. If not I go past his place when I sub at school and I could take a picture. It will be a week before I am at school there. J.

This is the one you put a turbo on, right? I'm drooling already and can't wait to see your pictures! Who knows, maybe it will inspire me to do my 2255-T project this winter. Sorry, I am most definitely not your 585 expert.

Yeah, this is the one with the turbo, it sounds great with that charger and a chrome streight stack. We almost have it finished and I have to do some touch up painting on it, and it is ready to go. Man, this 585 is a finiky engine. Worse than a 310 Waukesha I think :-)

Will have lots of pictures when I am done...

Well when i did mine the hydrolic pump bolted up to the oil pump. You were supposed to order differant kits depending which tractor you had.I still have the instalation instructions that covers all the differant models of tractors. I can look this up later. Be sure you add a check valve in the sucktion line to the pump. Have to go to the tractor club meeting tonight.

Hmmmm, sounds like I am missing something on the engine oil pump then. I suppose there is something that bolts on the back of the main pump that replaces the end cap and allows the hydraulic pump to bolt to it??

Guess I will try to call Maibach and see if they have anything.

I do have a check valve in the suction tube, I will check and make sure it is working good before I put it in there.

Thanks Larry. I am begining to understand why you dont like these engines :-)

I looked at the instructions last night and it shows an adapter cap that changes the large 2 bolt flange to the small 4 bolt flange. for the 2 wheel drive tractors. There is allso a small drive shaft you have to change on some models. The 2655 of mine used the large 2 bolt flange and change the drive in the hydrolic pump.
