I replaced the pto seal, but the oil appears to be leaking from the hole inside the pto shaft, where the spline is inserted. Looking inside with a flashlight, I see a 3/8x16 bolt. I tried removing it & adding thread sealer, but oil is still leaking at a pretty good rate from inside. Can't really see where exactly it is coming from. Has anyone else expreienced this? Thanks

Crew cheif is incorrect for the 550/55
I"ve done it a few times and just helped a guy that was doing it on the phone he had no issues The one thing I 100% reccomend is though BUY the PIN from your AGCO dealer It"s not just a roll pin..... it"s a spring steel multilayered type pin A plain jane hardware pin will have you redoing the project a few times after you use the PTO Take it for what it"s worth

OK, so if crewcheif's procedure is not for the Super-55, is the explanation from Jake accurate for the Super-55, doing the work externally by removing the PTO hub / set-screw & pulling the shaft out the back to access the o-ring?

If so, where exactly is the set-screw & I'll take a closer look at what I have here.

Just want to be sure so not digging into areas that I should'nt.....thanks for the help so far.

The set screws are accesable by removal of the inspection plate, there either 1 or 2 depending if the update has been made. The screw hole is in the housing behind the adjusting nut, I think it's 3/16 allen. Due to the angle I bent the shaft to remove it. When replacing the screw[s] have a partner slide the shaft throughe the 2 internal bearings and use a screwdriver or other item to center the groove and re insert screws. Nothing to it. LOL

The inspection plate is a sheet metal plate held by 4 1/4 in bolts about a foot behind the engone on the underside. Give me your e-address and I'll scan the pics, or look for the section with "registered users" and have Kim relay the address.

If you are talking about the rear hub in which the stub is inserter it can be removed easily. Remove the allen screws whick lock the shaft in place then take the beariln and seal and remove the entire PTO shaft then drive the 1/4 roll pin or pin our. The hub may have to be pressed out, there is an o ring set in a recess tis should be replaced, the the hub is replaced and a 1/4 roll pin inserted. The shaft is carfully slid back into the PTO assy and the recess for the set screws lined up[this reqires 2 persons. I replaced one of these hub 3 months ago by my self and took an extra day because no one was available. No split or other parts have to be removed. LOL

You will have to pull top off of Trans./rearend and replace O-Ring onthe PTO shaft. Need to drain oil from rearend and driv pin out of shaft to pull coupler off.

I had the top removed earlier this summer to fix a shif-linkage problem. I remember looking, and thought the PTO was below, under lot"s of other things. Can the roll-pin be accessed from the top w/o removing additional gear sets & the PTO clutch? I don"t have a service manual, so going off memory here.

Yes you can drive pin out with out removing anything else. Disengauge PTO lever so you can turn shaft to get pin straight up and down. their is just enough room below shaft for pin. Going back with pin you will need to work PTO lever to get it lined up ???Need any more info. let me know

There is no other way to remove the pin and replace the o ring. Buy the book and see and don't ask for help if you don't believe what you hear so screw it up.
